Audiobooks: Fastest-Growing Sector in Digital Publishing

The boom in audiobooks is fueled by listener demand for multitasking as over half of U.S adults now listen to audiobooks. I just published my first one with my latest novel, Sleight of Hand. There are many ways to go about this. You can go to ACX and ask for auditions by potential narrators, choose one, then work out a contract. This might involve pricing for a professional studio. Or if you have a great reading voice and the technical know-how, you could opt to narrate your own book, as many authors are doing these days. Myself, I went local. Found a wonderful local actor and used the Lexington Public Library’s Northside’s recording studio (free!). My publisher did the editing and posting onto Audible. For now, I’m exclusive to Audible but that may change. Spotify, Chirp, and others are quickly entering the marketplace.
You can click on the link below and read a snippet for free…and if you are an Audible member, download it. My book shifts from 3 different points of view. I never would have thought about it but Mike (narrator) read all of one characters chapters then switched to the others….to stay in voice. It was a fun process and I encourage others to give it a try!
